Earlier this week, Deb Haaland, a member of New Mexico’s Laguna Pueblo, became the first Native woman to be elected for Cabinet Secretary. The vote came in as 50-41 in favor of electing Secretary Haaland to lead the Department of the Interior. This historic confirmation is important as the office she now leads, has specifically historically disenfranchised Native Americans.
